THORNAPPLE – Natsseon Yeoldae

I have NO words. If you’ve follow “Eat Your Kimchi” on Youtube and listen to their Korean Indie music reviews, this group and song is likely to be familiar to you. That’s how I found this song, to begin with! Since then, I’ve been more interested in finding more Korean indie groups that fit my tastes — I’m not huge on Western or local indie groups, but wow.

If the intro doesn’t appeal to you, try to move to 1:40. It becomes way more energetic.

If you prefer to see a live version, someone also took a video of that:

His live vocals aren’t that bad, either (it gets better after the shift.) I actually prefer his laugh in this video (begins at 1:31 here instead of approx. 1:39 in the MV) — it gives the shift a little more power.

Thornapple

English

Lyrics: Yun Seong-hyeon
Composer: Yun Seong-hyeon
Arrangement: Thornapple

Following the hazy road
Following the shimmering moon
Where was the island I was born?

A tropic where everyone is dreaming
where I am the only one awake
I searched for the divine
along the equator of yours and mine

An unfamiliar tropic where I was sick
The tropic where you left me

Useless ones uselessly healthy
coupled up and kissing each other
“Be sick instead of me, then I can live”
Swearing in sorrow before I even knew it

An unfamiliar tropic where I was sick
The tropic where you left me

Even so, some gave me medicine
I pretended to swallow, but then I spit it out

What should I even do? (*He says this in a Southeastern Korean Accent)
What should I even do?
What should I even do?
ahh
What should I even do?
What should I even do?
What should I even do?

Today the same amount of people died on the streets
As the people who died yesterday
Today is a day where nobody means anything to me
A harsh day in the tropics

An unfamiliar tropic where I was sick
The tropic where you left me
An unfamiliar tropic where I was sick
The tropic where you left me
